Artlink Edinburgh project, 2008 – 2012
Working for Artlink Edinburgh at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital I have led on a project called Growing Spaces, along with Anne Elliot. The project aims to activate the hospital community’s interest in the grounds of the hospital, including an old orchard, working with staff, patients, visitors, local residents and community groups.
Over the last few years different events and activities have been organised to inspire and bring people together to make changes to their environment and think about it differently. We’ve celebrated blossom days, created growing plots for people to grow their own produce, encouraged guerilla gardening, hosted picnics, organised dinner parties, run gardening workshops amongst other activities. The programme adapts and changes according to people’s interests and has incorporated gardening, cooking, cycling, walking, performances, poetry, photography and sign making.
It is a collaborative approach to working and is dependant on developing relationships with people over the longer term.
