An arts festival in Govanhill, Glasgow, 2010 – 2012

Streetland emerged from conversations and discussions between creative practitioners in the Southside of Glasgow and was developed by myself, Tom Warren, Olivia Guertler and Lucie Potter.

Streetland aims to engage and inspire communities in a creative exploration of their streets and communal spaces. We developed a programme of events, exhibitions, performances and activities about community and the street, made with and for the diverse communities in Govanhill, in indoor and outdoor spaces in Westmoreland Street.

Initially supported by the Govanhill Baths Community Trust, Southside Studios and the residents group, who remain as core supporters alongside the Chalet, it has gone on to develop a wide range of partnerships in the area and is currently planning the third festival in May 2012.

As well as being involved with the curation of the festival I contributed to the programme through a collaborative project Wild Weed Walk with Vicki Fleck in 2010. People were led on an edible trail of what is usually disregarded or removed as unsightly or unwanted ending up with a taster of of a wild weed soup.
