Velocity project

Tags | , ,

In January this year I worked with the community of Camlachie (or as it is more commonly referred to Barrowfield) in the East of Glasgow to generate ideas and feedback on designs for proposed development of multi-purpose greenspace sites in the area.

It wasn’t the most seasonable month to be thinking about being outdoors but I worked with several local groups to generate ideas, projected the designs in the proposed sites and held an event in the local community centre to deconstruct the proposed designs and give the landscape architects feedback. Despite have been consulted on numerous occasions about what they wanted to see in the area and not seeing much response to their suggestions the community was really positive about having more greenspace and safe space for play and recreation.

The project was commissioned through Velocity, the cultural plan for the city in relation to the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow by Glasgow Life, Glasgow City Council, Creative Scotland and Clyde Gateway Urban Regeneration Company. Visit the website for more information.

I hope that the community get what they need and deserve, particularly in the light of the major redevelopment of the East End and the massive investment in buildings like the Emirates Stadium for the 2014 Commonweath Games.
